Simple & Shavings

Photography Now & Then #48

This piece was photographed on top the partial wall between the kitchen and living room, with the living room lights off, without flash.  In post-processing, color was removed from everything except the painted carving.

Cut and shaped from cedar, three animals seem to be represented in the piece, a fish and a bird, for sure, but we’re not sure what the third is. We bought it on July 3, 2002 in Sitka, Alaska while on a cruise.

On July 10, 2010, we happened upon an art fair in Jackson, Wyoming.  One of the pieces I found fascinating was an American bison metal sculpture where the “hair” on the head was rendered using metal shavings.

A “small, boutique fair,” the Jackson Hole Art Fair is in it’s 52nd year in 2018, open July 13 –15 and August 10 – 12. It is the largest fundraiser for the Art Association of Jackson Hole.

The Art Association’s Art Fairs are quintessential Jackson Hole summer events. These outdoor fairs feature local and national artists selling fine art and craft including ceramics, paintings, furniture, photography, and much more. Live music, food vendors, youth activities, and artists demos add to the extended weekend activities at Miller Park. All proceeds benefit our art education and outreach programs.
