No & Lobby

Photography Now & Then #71

I’m not much for shopping for clothes; never really have been. We were in North Little Rock to get the passenger side air bag on our car replaced and, after we were done there, went over to McCain Mall. We used to go there a few times a year, but it seems like years since the last time.  There are other shopping areas now, newer ones and closer to home; plus, we simply don’t go “shopping” like we used to. And now, there is one category of clothes that I no longer have to shop for – work clothes.

As an instructor, the work attire had been for many years “business casual,” which, for me, were a pair of slacks, a polo shirt, and a comfortable pair of shoes. Twenty-five years or so ago, we went through a period where we had to wear a button-up shirt with a tie when we were actually teaching.  During the same period, the control room senior operator dress required the same.

Almost a soon as my last contract gig was done, almost all of my “work” clothes went into bags slated for donation.  My preferred attire is a tee shirt and either jeans or shorts, depending on the time of year.

Oh, and, other than items we planned to pick up at Sam’s Wholesale Club, we didn’t buy anything while “shopping.”

Although we’ve spent quite a few nights in Yellowstone National Park, all but a couple have been in campgrounds.  The other places we’ve lodged in were Old Faithful Inn early one autumn in the late 1970s and at one of the lodging facilities in Grant Village in early September 2001 – that one was like a downscale motel that needed renovation. It’s interesting, though, to visit some of the other facilities just to see the period architecture.

Upon arrival, the hotel’s massive white columns welcome you to a time of classic, yet casual elegance. With the delicate sound of a string quartet, you’ll be captivated by views of Yellowstone Lake from the Sun Room. The historic Lake Yellowstone Hotel completed extensive interior renovations in June, 2014, restoring it to its Colonial Revival heritage. The hotel was also awarded Green Seal Lodging Certification for sustainable operations and was recently designated a National Historic Landmark in 2015.  The multi-million dollar project included all guest rooms, dining room, bar and public spaces and a redesigned deli. Lake Yellowstone Hotel now offers wired internet service and a business center.
