We were still 11 days away from the autumnal equinox—the first day of fall—and the weather certainly wasn’t summer-like.
Just the night before, we had been camping in Grand Teton National Park when the weather forecast changed.
Our visit to the Tetons had been a spur-of-the-moment change of plans from heading to lower elevations and warmer weather. You can do that when you’re retired and have no particular place that you have to be.
With snow and colder temperatures predicted, we cut short our stay at Gros Ventre campground and headed east to lower elevations, hoping to stay ahead of the weather. Along the way, we made a reservation for a spot at a KOA north of Casper, Wyoming.
We certainly didn’t expect the snow to catch up with us. Fortunately, we stayed ahead of it, but it started falling in big fluffy flakes before we were even fully set up at our campsite. We ended up with a little over an inch before it stopped.
