Camping and Travel Daily Image No. 30
We’ve stopped at this rest area a couple of times over the years. It seems like it is a long distance from anywhere after driving on Interstate 90 across rolling barren looking land of northeastern Wyoming. That’s probably because it is an oasis in a land so empty, no towns, no farms, no anything, just the highway and the treeless land.
Powder River Rest Area is actually well situated exactly halfway between Gillette and Buffalo. Even though traffic seemed sparse, both times we stopped, there were quite a few others stopping, some just to use the facilities and others, like us, for a walk to loosen up and a break for lunch.
