Pins & Kites

Photography Now & Then #47

With this photo, I was aiming for a very shallow depth of field, with one narrow plane in focus and the rest of the photo, behind and in front of that plane, out of focus. The pins are t-pins that Karen uses for quilting.

Bokeh – In photography, bokeh is the aesthetic quality of the blur produced in the out-of-focus parts of an image produced by a lens.

It was fascinating to watch these guys kitesurfing off Sullivan’s Island, South Carolina.  I can only imagine the skill it takes to do this.  I never was very good at flying a regular kite when I was a kid.  When I was in my late teens, I dabbled at surfing down on the Texas gulf coast, but never spent enough time at it to be at all successful.  Combining the two is amazing.
