After our Pike’s Peak drive, we spent some time looking around the towns of Manitou Springs and Old Colorado City.
Today, the towns are part of the South Central Colorado Urban Area (Wikipedia). Old Colorado City is actually a national historic district in the city of Colorado Springs that was incorporated into Colorado Springs in 1917. Adjacent to each other, both towns were on one of the direct routes to the Pike’s Peak area gold fields.
Manitou Springs is the home of the Pike’s Peak Cog Railway.
