44 Million Campers

That’s how many Americans went camping in 2009, according to the 2010 Special Report on Camping, published by The Outdoor Foundation in partnership with Coleman.  While the percentage of Americans camping  in was lower than 2006, the total number of campers was higher as a result of an overall increase in population.  Lower numbers in 2007 and 2008 probably reflect economic uncertainties and the beginning of the recession.  By many indicators – and our first hand observation – the number of campers in 2010 will likely exceed 2009.
